Firm History

    The law firm of Shafer, Davis, O'Leary & Stoker was formed in Odessa, Texas in 1947 as the partnership of McDonald & Shafer and has grown with the city.

     The firm of Shafer, Davis, O'Leary & Stoker has a commitment to the legal profession, professional involvement, and community leadership.  We have a broad range of practice and clientele with emphasis in trial and appellate work in federal and state courts.  We represent insurance companies, hospitals, county and city governments, a local college, banks, railroads, a local chamber of commerce, and businesses of national, regional and local origin.

     Our firm includes members of the American College of Trial Lawyers, International Academy of Trial Lawyers, International Association of Trial Lawyers, Association of Defense Trial Attorneys, International Association of Insurance Counsel, Texas Association of Defense Counsel, and American Board of Trial Advocates.

     We have continued to expand our professional involvement, having members who became presidents of the State Bar of Texas, president of the Texas Association of Defense Counsel, and chairman of the National Association of Bar Presidents.

     We have made major contributions to government and community leadership.  Past and present members of the firm have served as a state court of appeals judge, a federal district court judge, state district court judges, a school board trustee, state commissioner and chairman of the Department of Highways and Public Transportation, school board representative, president of the Texas Association of School Boards, State Commissioner of Education, and officers of state and local bar associations.  We count at least one member in almost every local civic group.

     The Shafer Law Firm is composed of over 35 attorneys and support personnel with offices on two floors of the Bank of America Building in Odessa, Texas.
